Had a guest lecture with Chris Watson, gained a lot of insight and inspiration involving field recording tips, different techniques of microphones recordings and microphones themsleves.
Most inspirational info included:
- Layering ambience’s, (far & close) capture a close sound, take a few steps back take another recording, rince and repaet further away, layer in DAW and mix like a chord structure
- Different surround sound systems & Recording spacial sound
Put the audience where the microphone
- Wide angle stereo perspective + close mono focused sound
- Atmospheres: relatively quite/low dynamic recoding of an open space
- record rail train over canal, liverpool/leeds canal
- Wide angle stereo recording of birds
- levelof the stuff you listen to, should be played back at a minimal level
- Strigulation
- Insects rubbing parts together to create pitch
- harmonically rich
- Ultra sonic frequencies
some of the fundemtals with will 50khz, but harmonic fallout, harmonics will be at 20kHz - - -
- 12.5khz'Habitat' recording
using natural sounds for music
emphasis on dynamic range to engage audiences
Other notes included:
Movement with stereo can create a good effect but may be confusing to brain without visual
Static recording helps create a perspective/location
Reference: discus levels and the use of minimal sounds, if a sound has too much background interference, simply bringing down the level can isolate the prominent close sound and take out the background with major filter processing needed
Note:
I should set a plan to manage the project and my process of work ethic
I will begin my Evaluation stage that links with my progress journal and my written W.I.P of each project.
One thing I need to address as a problem is how my DnB song doesnt have a strong theme in comparisent to my others.
I have:
- Plastic/Metal hits for Glich Hop
- Electrical signals for Electro House
- Natural loaction for Melodic Groove
So far ambience and aesthetics is the best theme for my DnB, this works but hasnt been represented very well.
