Went to Mean-wood forest with Marcus to capture all the field recordings I needed for my Nature 'theme' song, gathering a selection of bird tweets and calls that I would use as melodies, chords and effects
I needed a bass sound though and after experimenting, using bubbling water for sub content was generally too erratic and muddy.
So I new that I had to record some sort of bass sound, and from my previous works with capturing natural saw signals I came up the idea of recording bees.
Fortunately I knew of a bee hive farm close by, so I asked the people who owned the allotment if I could do a recording, this still wasn't easy though as due to the time of year, the bees were barley active, not until late March, April at least, still though I carefully placed a DPA mic in through a gap and gave the box a gentle knock in order to wake up some of the bees .
I was incredibly lucky to capture just a few seconds of a bee flying up to and past the mic and this is all I needed.
