The original plan was to use a door slam as a kick, but qualities in tone and punch were not adequate, I had to resort to layering a sampled bass drum with the door slam audio. I wasn't particularly happy using this though, as it went against my project rule of using solely 'Foley' based audio, for some time I relied upon using this technique as it worked very well, especially with a 'Glue Compressor' that made both audio seem like one entity, I decided later though to isolate the kick sample from my percussion group due to it having filtering automation that disrupted an essential element of the track, this was then put into a separate drum group that consisted of purely the Kick and Snare. Separating the sampled kick and door slam audio gave the perception of them being different elements, most likely because of the 'Glue Compressor' that originally merged the channels together, creating my own kick recording with a Foley based object was my only option in order to create an effective bass drum.
In order to not cheat, I will try using a box as my kick, probably having it set up with a D112 and a Plate mic, positioned inside to captured the sub content, both these recordings, then I'll simply work on an excessive compression if need be, some distortion with an amp effect and then the high end automation door slam layer to give it some dynamic movement
